Minette Glyn, a lowly ATS repatriation officer in postwar Germany, falls for a married and much-decorated Group Captain. His wife blocks their hopes of a divorce, but following a scandal back in England he and Minette start life together in Kenya, where they confront ruin and heartbreak.
