COURTESY OF LowCountryBookstore:During the period considered in this book, 1890 to 1903 (there are only a couple of works dating from 1904 - plus a group of works done in the years 1916 and 1917). Picasso was living in different places, mainly in Malaga, Corunna and Barcelona, with long stays in Madrid and in the village of Horta de Ebro in Tarragona and eventually short visits to Paris. But even though each new place implies a new artistic environment and new contacts, rather than influences, the book is not divided according to where Picasso was living, but according to the phases of his development as e see them. It seemed inappropriate to leave such a wide gap as exists between 1904 and 1916, so we have inserted a brief summary of Picasso"s development in those years, when he was already living in Paris. It is important to remember that the purpose of this book is to study the Picasso donation to the city of Barcelona, and that it excludes all works other than those contained in the donation (which are for the most part unpublished; we believe that not more than 130 of them are known or have been reproduced).
