One can"t but sense a deep love of great music and an abiding concern for quality behind the many interesting Delos compilation releases. Like Delos"s "Music for Young People" series, this disc is both original and excellent. It"s organized around a loosely religious theme, with excerpts from the sacred writing of such composers as Bach, Palestrina, Duruflé, Holst, Victoria, Barber, Brahms, Dvorák and Harris. The performances seem divinely inspired, too, with such performers as the Voices of the Ascension choir under Dennis Keene, St. John"s Episcopal Cathedral Choir and Orchestra conducted by Donald Pearson, and the Westminster Choir with the New Jersey Symphony under Zdenek Macal.
