This is an ICM Plastic Model Kits 1/72 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the Polikarpov Po-2 (also known as U-2), a World War II era wood and canvas biplane multi-purpose aircraft of the Soviet Union and one of the most versatile light combat aircraft produced in the Second World War. Model kit features: Kit has engraved panel lines, raised rivets, subtle fabric-over-frame effects, well detailed tandem cockpits, multi-part 5-cylinder radial engine, separately molded rudder, choice of wheel or ski undercarriage, underwing bomb racks, bombs (x4) and injection-molded windscreens. Decals and painting reference for 4 Soviet aircraft: U-2VS of the 213th Night Bomber Division, summer 1943; U-2VC of an unspecified unit, winter 1942; slogan emblazoned Po-2VS of the 46th Tamansky GvNBAP, spring 1945 and Po-2VS of the 2nd Polish NBAP "Krakow", around Lublin, summer 1944. The U-2 was nicknamed the "sewing machine" by the German Wehrmacht, and ironically, the pilots most famous for flying daring U-2 night harassment bombing and precision bombing sorties against Germany in World War II were women. The Soviet 588th Night Bomber Regiment, nicknamed the "Night Witches", was composed entirely of women pilot and ground crew complement. The pilots of the 588th flew the Polikarpov Po-2 in daring low-altitude night raids on German rear-area positions, and the nightly raids continued to terrorize and demoralize German troops from 1942 until the end of the war. By war"s end, the 588th had flown over 23,000 sorties and is said to have dropped 3,000 tons of bombs.
