Handyman Red Green and his cohorts at the Possum Lodge in frozen Canada present their style of holiday festivity in this video, and the jokes are so bad they"re brilliant. Somehow managing to be simultaneously corny and cynical, Red, his nerd nephew Harold, and other screwy characters familiar to viewers of CBC"s Red Green Show (which appears on America"s PBS) not only show how to cut down a Christmas tree, but demonstrate how to decorate it using explosives and a small howitzer. Red also fires up his acetylene torch to instruct the viewer in the fine art of making a traditional Christmas sleigh out of a battered Chrysler. As Red might put it, this ain"t Martha Stewart. The various bits are delivered in a deadpan style to great effect, and the entire production has an infectious oddball charm to it. For viewers who appreciate the folksy Canadian humor, this tape is a Christmas stocking overflowing with sight gags and quirky jokes, and even those who have never heard of Red Green or the Possum Lodge may find it amusing. As Red says in the introduction, "Just lower your standards, and you"ll have a happier Christmas." --Robert J. McNamara
