Going to the Galapagos brings to one"s attention the importance of "how" to do so. There are only two places on earth for visitors to leave from in order to land in the Galapagos - Quito and Quayaquil - so large insets of both cities are added to the map to assist visitors needing to find their way around those cities before and after visiting the Galapagos. One side of the sheet features a travel map of the Galapagos Islands at scale 1:420,000 (1 inch = 6.6 miles) showing the updated road network, basic though it is, and tracks. It is a topographic map with relief showed by contours, elevation tinting and spot heights for selected peaks. Symbols denote points of interest, also accommodation, post offices, hospitals and air strips and harbours. Added is an inset map of central Guayaquil at scale 1:7,500. The reverse side shows a large street plan of central part of Quito at 1:12,500 with an inset map of its environs and diagram of the transport network. The plan is clear, orientated with the west at the top, to provide a convenient layout between the airport and the districts south of the Old City. Bus, metrobus and trolleybus routes are shown with stops. Exits to and from motorways are clearly presented and main traffic arteries are highlighted. In the southern part of the city streets with steps are indicated. Symbols highlight various places of interest and facilities, including selected hotels, embassies, museums and other cultural institutions, sport facilities. Also provided are a diagram of the public transport network, plus a road map of the city"s environs including Otavalo and Imbarra to the north and Cotopaxi south of the capital.
