The songs on this recording were selected simply because I like them. A few of my favorite offerings are: Frishbergs Peel Me A Grape for its hip, sassy attitude; the strong emotional content and delivery of Dori Caymmis Obsession. Note the amusing role reversal on the tag of the classic Ellington standard, Dont Get Around Much Anymore, which also features Rod Fleemans sparkling guitar; the heart wrenching, incredibly haunting Jobim/Buarque composition Retrato em Branco e Preto, featuring the sensual accompaniment of the Latin jazz ensemble Musa Nova; and, the marvelous Bobby Troup blues tune, Baby, Baby, All The Time, showcasing Cartwrights dynamic piano and Stan Kesslers lively horn arrangement. Also enjoyable on this selection is the whimsical trombones intro to the scat solo. This intro is reminiscent of earlier times when the trombone was my instrument of choice.
