This is full-blooded, 19th century Haydn, with a lot of power and a wide range of dynamics. This ensemble doesn"t keep Haydn in a polite 18th century style, and the round sound of its modern instruments is conveyed in a lively recording made at the great Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. If you want your Haydn wearing a powdered wig, this is not the disc for you. If you want to let the old boy rip, though, these excellent musicians give us the best single-disc introduction to Haydn"s Trios available.
