This is the biography of Nathan Roberts whose engineering expertise helped build the original Erie Canal. He was involved in the survey of the route that the canal took, designed the locks in the western section and supervised the building of the locks at Lockport. Mr. Lawson lives in the Roberts House in Canastota.
