Chiswick House and Gardens (English Heritage Guidebooks)
Price 4.14 USD
Chiswick House is one of the finest Palladian villas in England. Designed in the 1720s by the third Earl of Burlington, and set in gardens laid out with advice from William Kent, it provided a setting for Burlington"s art collection and for select gatherings of his artistic circle. The design reflects the influence of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio and his English follower Inigo Jones, and also contains many erudite references to Classical antiquity. This guidebook provides a lively account of the design of Chiswick House and an insight into the lives of its inhabitants. It includes a guided tour of the house and gardens, as well as new photographs of the giltwood side tables that were recently acquired by English Heritage and returned to their original position in the Gallery.
