In "It"s Bedtime, Joshua!," toddler Joshua refuses to accept that his bedtime has arrived. In the opening scene, Joshua tucks his baby brother into his crib and his mother tells him that it is his bedtime. He says that he is not tired as he starts his bedtime ritual. He imagines six lovable pet animals outside his window and briefly talks to them. Each animal describes his busy day and agrees that now is bedtime. Joshua does not understand how it can be bedtime when he still has many things to do. As the book porgresses and nighttime appears, Joshua imagines each animal as he performs his bedtime activities and becomes more tired. A warm, loving final sequence incorporates his mother in the final step of the ritual with resolution of the bedtime struggle.
