Mawi leaves his home village of Maitengwe for the City of Gaborone in search of a job. He is employed as a labourer in a construction company,an assignment that he goes on to despise for its low pay.He shares a room with Lobani in a shanty township where living conditions are deplorable. He goes on to admire the lifestyle of another friend Wabo, who appears to be progressive and a pickpocket. Mawi wants to work hard and make enough money to support his poor parents and girlfriend, Kakale who he plans to marry in future. In pursuit of his ambition to get rich, he embraces pick pocketing but his sojourn into the world of pickpockets is short lived and disrupts his entire plan for success.
