Hully Gully

The Olympics were one of the great L.A.-based acts who managed to score hits by balancing upbeat and often humorous novelty R&B tunes with those about popular dances of the day. Their hits include the popular dance number "Baby Hully Gully," "Big Boy Pete" (which went to number ten R&B - their biggest success in the novelty realm), and "Mine Exclusively." Other hits included "Little Pedro," "Little Dooley," and "Big Chief Little Foot" (which featured "war whoops"). Others, like the humorous "Dodge City", sound like teenage West Coast Americana at its most innocent. The group consisted of Walter "Sleepy" Ward (Lead); Eddie Lewis (Tenor); Charles Fizer (Baritone); Walter Hammond (Baritone) and Marcus Banks (Piano). Featured here is their 1959 hit, "(Baby) Hully Gully," coupled with their 1961 hit "(Little) Dooley." Newly remastered.
