The first battery powers the clock and the second powers the pendulum, side to side motion. The clock can be used with only the clock battery inserted but without the second battery the body of the clock will not move from side to side.This item is priced individually and requires some simple assembly. There is a mounting bracket on the back for hanging on the wall.
