Casamance

Kéba Kébé is from Casamance, a region in the south of Senegal. He started singing and drumming as a teenager before teaching himself to play various instruments – ekontine (traditional guitar), flute, bass, guitar… He was discovered by Frikyiwa during a Diola wedding ceremony in Dakar and subsequently will in March be releasing this, his first album, recorded entirely by himself with the exception of three backing vocalists. Kéba Kébé represents Diola culture through his various instruments and vocals. The Diola tradition is easily identifiable through the fast, hot rhythms and the wooden percussion hits. The sharp and typically Diola rhythms open the listener to a new world, very different from the Mandingo style. This is an album for all those fans of mythic and spiritual percussion as well as those who wish to discover a unique music made from celestial melodies and unedited chords. Recorded in a mud hut, this record has a unique and warm sound that is an enchanting and charming testimony to Casamance.
