In November 1954 Sammy Davis Jr suffered a horrific, life-threatening car crash on US Highway 66. Whilst his life hung in the balance, his left eye could not be saved, and speculation mounted that his career as an actor, singer and performer was effectively at an end. A little over six months later, Sammy sat on top of the US album charts, with his Starring Sammy Davis Jr album spending six weeks at the summit. It proved to be a welcome and remarkable comeback for Sammy and five months later he was back in the Top Ten with Just For Lovers, peaking at #5. Surprisingly, these two albums, which were hits within five months of each, were to be the last Sammy Davis hit albums for seven years, but much of the interim period was spent concentrating on a number of other projects, most notably acting.
