DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO is an excellent trio (Guitar, bass and drums-percussions) from Spain that plays a powerful instrumental Progressive rock influenced by KING CRIMSON, VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, Peter HAMMILL and even MAGMA. The style and developments of "Trayecto" (2000) are beautifully structured thanks to the help of a dark energy. Here, one can hear excellent musicians, like for example the guitarist who was a student of Robert FRIPP during the GUITAR CRAFT seminars. The fourth album "Simetricanarquia" (2003) reveals an evolution in DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO"s musical approach. KING CRIMSON"s influences are still present, but these eleven mostly instrumental pieces also showcase the trio travelling through other musical worlds, sometimes near GONG (An impressive cover of "Dynamite" for example) or Robert WYATT. It also includes some peaceful acoustic moments, and spanish folk influences. With guests on cello, trumpet, saxophone amongst others, DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO takes place in the forefront of the best contemporary bands playing Progressive rock (No less !), as their talent for composition and their virtuosity are exceptional. "Flood" is the fifth album, recorded live in studio, and published in the year 2006 on the Musea label. These eleven instrumental pieces are unreleased tracks, typical of DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO"s musical spirit, including sort of structured improvisations. By essence, DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO"s musical style is meant for stage performance. And that"s exactly what"s featured in the band"s first DVD, "Present - Live Tiana 2008". It has been captured at Teatre Albeniz during the most famous today"s Progressive rock festival in Spain, near Barcelona, May 24th 2008. Helped by a guitar player guesting for the occasion, Joan SANTANACH, the trio plays sixteen top-notch instrumental tracks. Lyrics even come to the fore for the seventeenth and very last song, a cover-version of KING CRIMSON"s "Easy Money". About seven years after its last studio rendition, DIFICIL EQUILIBRIO comes back with "La Perdua" in a revamped formula. This 2013 offering sees the drummer Luis RODRIGUEZ as the sole survivor, now helped by guitar player Joan SANTANACH and drummer-singer Ismael PALACIOS. This didn"t affect the music though, apart from the arrival of the lyrics. The album ends up with three bonus-tracks, including an interesting "mediterranean" rendition of the famous "Twenty-First Century Schizoid Man" by KING CRIMSON. Don"t dare to miss that band !
