The book is a study of the mining country south of Prescott, Arizona; it is not a one dimensional study of the railroads, mines or of the ghost towns. Rather, it is the saga of how these elements had their Arizona origins, prospered and grew, and lived and died together.The book takes a brief look at the first railroads into Prescott and then details the mining roads that extended south into the mineral rich Bradshaw Mountains. It traces the rise and demise of not just the railroads and mines, but also of the communities that developed along the railroad tracks. Particular attention is given to the life-style, businesses, schools, elections, and recreation of the locals.
