Fir Siberian oil is steam distilled from the foliage of A. sibirica, a component of the boreal forests of Siberia and is an ingredient in air fresheners and inhalants. An essential oil is water or steam distilled from the crushed cones of A. alba. This oil is produced in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Yugoslavia but only on a modest scale. It has a fresh, sweet odour said to resemble bitter orange oil and is used in colognes.
