A film by Fred Paul, b&w, silent, original release 1916. Former actor Fred Paul"s version of Oscar Wilde"s play is a real historical curio. The script accentuates melodrama rather than humour, and adds scenes which are not found in the play. The cast includes Milton Rosmer, Sir Nigel Playfair and Arthur Wontner. This version, released by the BFI in 2001, features a specially composed music score by Nicholas Brown, performed by the Triptych piano trio.
