Detailed 1/100 scale assembly model kit of the legendary legendary Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO Reporting name "Fishbed"), a Cold War era supersonic single-seat jet fighter aircraft developed by the former Soviet Union. Introduced in 1959, the MiG-21 was designed from the outset as a high-speed interceptor, and in this role, the MiG-21 excelled. The delta-wing design of the MiG-21 gave the type excellent climb-rate and made it an excellent high-altitude interceptor. Although MiG-21"s maneuverability diminishes at lower speeds, in the hands of a competent pilot, the MiG-21 was able to hold its own against any fighter aircraft of the era. MiG-21"s claimed to fame came during the Vietnam War, were the North Vietnamese used MiG-21s in very short Ground Controlled Interceptor (GCI) missions against U.S. F-105 fighter-bombers and B-52 Superfortress heavy bombers with a good degree of success, and it proved a challenging adversary for U.S. escort fighters. Over 11,400 MiG-21s of all variants have been produced since 1959, and air forces of some 50 countries have operated the MiG-21. Many MiG-21s remained in service today, a testament the triumph of this legendary MiG fighter.
