"Quality of life" is inextricably related to concepts such as participation in society, social participation, maintaining relations, citizenship, and inclusion. When the points of departure for the quality of life are the starting point for the design of care and service, this will lead to radical changes in the attitude towards how care should be designed. Here, we can distinguish two paradigms: the "support paradigm" as opposed to the "institute paradigm." Inclusion is an important component of quality of life, and it is connected with issues such as participation in society, relationships, social networks, and civil society. When viewed from this perspective, the social position of people with an intellectual disability, still leaves much to be desired. It is often found that segregation and marginalization still exist. This book focuses on the role of care organizations in the processes of social inclusion in the Netherlands. The book looks at the success factors and failure factors that come into play when designing inclusion processes.
