Since the early seventies an annual "Foreign Policy Report" has been submitted by the Austrian Government to Parliament. Since 1979 this report has been published as a book and been made available to the general public. The aim was to inform Austrian citizens about the main issues under discussion in the field of international relations, and to make them better acquainted with the positions taken by the Government in the realm of foreign policy. Thus the annual report should provide useful feedback in the process of democratic decision making.-- For smaller, democratic European countries such as Austria the vision of a peaceful world and more constructive international relations must be translated into concrete action.
