Originating from Nancy (Lorraine), Olivier FRECHE is known to have been a member of JADE, whose music varies between jazz, KING CRIMSON-like Progressive rock and ethnic musics. He is leading today his own project under the pseudonym of HYPERION. The science-fiction connoisseurs will obviously see the reference to the famous literary saga by Dan SIMMONS, an essential work in the genre. Published on the Gazul label in 2006, "The Cantos" is presented as an extremely ambitious album, worthy of the ambition of the theme tackled here. With the help of several guests (String section, double-bass, drums, tablas, saxophone...), among whom Rémi CHAUDAGNE, our man plays all the guitar parts and sings the few vocal parts (In English) plus most of the other instruments. The ten pieces are mostly instrumental, such as the somptuous cover of a piano theme of RACHMANINOV as an ouverture. Numerous sound effects weave strange, sometimes dark and oppressive atmospheres. This music! is alternatively symphonic and grandiose, heavy and disturbing, electro, indus, ethnic, hypnotic... It sometimes reminds of the great KING CRIMSON, with a marked preference for electronic experimentations of the recent period, with no vocal part. However, this major release is especially very personal, surprising, original and grandiose at the same time. Adapting "Hyperion" ? That was a daring challenge, done with real success !
