This is the story of Dade Dollar. A young boy who contacts polio and is bed ridden. He falls asleep and most of the story is a dream. He dreams about times he could run, play and swim. Times he befriended a small dog and they became fast friends. Times Dade gets caught in a forest fire and in the wild winds of a tornado. Times Dade has a wild ride down a steep hill and the fun and friendship found at a swimming hole. Times Dade is beaten up by a bully and the time Dade gets his first kiss. A great time at a church festival when cats interrupt their dinner and Dade tries his best to win a duck. A time Dade and his friends are caught riding the neighbor cows and a time they try to catch a goat. A time Dade tries a taste of turtle soup cooked in its own shell and a time cows spoil Pa Dollars garden. This is a story of a family moving to the country and not having the comforts of city living.
