Thanks to a number of popular lieder, the name Lahusen is fairly familiar to many music lovers, but even among the most experienced choir leaders very few know that they form a relatively minor part of a wide range of works totalling almost one thousand pieces. Hardly anyone is aware of the fact that a rare wealth of melody and harmony - representing a fine synthesis between the strict composition of early Baroque and the inspired variety of sound of the late Romantics - is just waiting to be released on the world of music. It is the aim of this portrait of the composer to provide an introduction - acoustic and textual - to this wealth. The portrait is based on a representative cross-section of the Lieder and choral works created by Lahusen on Lake Constance between 1931 and 1961 (his «Überlinger Werk»). The most important of these works are briefly discussed below. Additional biographical informatiion, and details about the publishing house and the archives, are also provided in the booklet.
