Botanical name ~ Lavandula latifolia Caution ~ *Chemically Spike Lavender contains more camphor than true Lavender, which is apparent in the aroma, a little harsher than true Lavender, but more importantly this means it should be avoided with epilepsy, with children and in pregnancy. Description ~ Spike Lavender is one of the main species of the Lavandula genus, it is similar to True Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) but its lance shaped leaves are broader and rougher and the flower is more compressed and of a grey blue colour. Aroma ~ A penetrating deep sweet aroma. Extraction ~ by steam distillation from the flowering tops.Traditional Uses ~ Similar in actions to True Lavender, .Country of Origin ~ SpainChemical Constituents ~ Linalool, cineol, camphor. Uses ~ The camphor content does make it a more useful Lavender to use for respiratory conditions, and muscular aches, pains and rheumatism, since it is strongly anti-microbial and rubefacient. All Lavenders are deeply cleansing, and strongly antiseptic, so very useful for removing imposing energy. The plants are great for clearing energies and ideal planted around doorways and pathways.
