Probing Medical Research
This volume combines a series of papers that originally appeared in the British Medical Journal, as well as a number of original articles which together provide a concise overview of the current state of medical medical research in Britain. The book answers questions on the funding of research, how research funding bodies decide who to support, and how results are evaluated. The origins of the research system and landmarks in its development are noted, the system is compared with those found in other countries, and problem areas such as underfunding and low morale are given full consideration.
