Lyonel Feininger"s personal style, in which he synthesized combined elements of Cubism, Futurism, and Expressionism in his own way, allowed him to become a restorer of architectural motif in painting. His Halle (Germany) series (1929-1931) holds a special significance in both his personal oeuvre and in the art of the 20th Century. Such an intense portrait of the city is unique in the history of late modernity. In 1928, Lyonel Feininger was commissioned to paint a view of the city, Halle. Shortly after his arrival he told his wife that he would likely create more than one painting. The ensemble of 29 drawings and 11 paintings was purchased by the Museum in Moritzburg, Germany, but was then almost entirely forgotten during the Nazi "Degenerate Art" movement. This volume makes the ensemble available in a comprehensive form. German text.
