At the Kyoto Conference on Urban Climate, Planning and Building a breakthrough was achieved: for the first time all four leading international organizations of urban and building climatology decided to cooperate in organizing this conference. This was the result of the awareness that only by united efforts would urban and building climatology achieve recognition of its importance among scientists, engineers, planners and architects. The conference dealt with all aspects of problems related to urban and building climatology, from the theoretical to the applied sectors. As problems related both to research and applications in urban and building climatology are complex and diverse in different climatic regions of the world, these problems were carefully studied and discussed from the viewpoint of science and engineering as well as planning and building. More than 120 lectures were presented by scientists from all over the world.
