Bull Moose Jackson was a big band era saxophonist and vocalist, who, having cut his teeth with the bands of Lucky Millinder and Anisteen Allen, made his mark in the R&B boom of the late "40s and early "50s with his own band The Buffalo Bearcats, scoring a string of R&B chart hits with his mixture of salacious, double-entendre-laden songs and sentimental ballads that were hugely popular on jukeboxes. This great value 53-track 2-CD set draws on the material from his heyday between 1945 and 1953, as the market turned away from the smooth swing and traditional big bands and towards the more raucous R&B sounds that were becoming popular, in which his distinctive vocal styling played an important part alongside his sax playing. It"s an excellent cross section of his work and includes all his best-known hits.
