Drawing Samples for Copying (Obraztsy Dlya Kopirovaniya)

Collection of academic drawings presented in this publication provides a unique opportunity to follow different directions and even "revolutions" that took place in the Academy for more than two centuries of its existence. Students, many of whom eventually became well known artists, studied from their professors - the old masters, sometimes arguing and resisting the "old" methods, applying new materials, creating new techniques ... and then becoming masters themselves, taking their turn in teaching a new generation of young "rebellious" artists. But in spite of all different art movements, there are certain values that had always been carried by the Academy as an unshakable tradition - a passion for creativity, a selfless dedication to this craft, a unique "feel" - that is evident in the works of students - in relation to their models, and finally - the style that is so easily recognizable and which distinguishes the age when drawing was considered a "bedrock" of all Arts. The creation of this album was made possible by a tremendous work done by its originator Prof. V.A. Mogilevtsev who within two years was searching for and selecting works from museums and archives of the Academy of Arts, the Russian State Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery. As a result is a possibility to see unique drawings, which are often stored in archives and appear on public display only during major exhibitions.Enlarged fragments of the illustrations used in the manual provide a unique opportunity for studying and copying even the smallest details.Large format book , matte coated paper, hard cover, bi-lingual edition (Russian and English), 132 pages with 155 of highest quality images - all this also adds to this book a status of an exclusive teaching aid, which will be demanded not only by professional art schools, but by all those who care about the art of drawing, who believes - as hundreds of years ago - that the drawing is the foundation of all the arts.
