Spills and Thrills

Hot off the presses, JOHN PAUL KEITH & THE ONE FOUR FIVES have just finished their debut LP, SPILLS AND THRILLS, for spring 2009 release on Big Legal Mess Records - an imprint of the legendary Fat Possum label of Oxford, Miss. The band took great pains to make sure it sounds as good as possible on a format nobody listens to anymore. In fact, they spent almost as much time making the record as they did making their Myspace page. Just who the hell are these people? Well, John Paul Keith is a native of Knoxville, TN, who has moved around a lot and played in a lot of bands (The V-Roys, The Nevers, Ryan Adams" Pink Hearts, Stateside, Harlan T. Bobo, Jack Oblivian, and Jim Dickinson"s garage rock project, Snake Eyes). Keith moved to Memphis a couple years ago and hooked up with Alvin Youngblood Hart"s former rhythm section, bassist M. EDGAR STUART and drummer JOHN ARGROVES. Not content to embarrass just themselves, they soon recruited guitarist/producer/recording engineer KEVIN CUBBINS, along with pedal steel player JOHN WHITTEMORE (Jack Oblivian & The Tennessee Tearjerkers), and organist/piano man AL GAMBLE. Like all new bands, the guys struggled at first to come up with a good name. Eventually, they gave up. Eschewing the normal route of opening for more established bands, the One Four Fives generated a buzz around Memphis by doing bills on their own. With multiple sets of Keith"s originals mixed in with dusty cover tunes, these all-night rambles have earned the band quite a reputation in the dives around Midtown. Despite that, their audience just keeps growing.
