Ce Soir LÃ ... (Live, Enhanced CD-ROM)
Price 16.29 - 18.45 USD
You"d be forgiven if, after hearing Lo"Jo"s intoxicating new live album Ce Soir La, you imagined that you"d stumbled across a long-lost recording of Serge Gainsbourg"s brother and his cabaret troupe lost somewhere in Morocco. So it is with Lo"Jo, the utterly unclassifiable French/Arabic/West African hybrid that has been stitching the sounds of the globe together into a strange and beautiful tapestry for over ten years now. Fans of the group will be delighted to know that the live versions here in many cases surpass the studio offerings- like leader Denis Pean"s funky Tom Waits turn on "A l"arene des audacieux" and "Senor Calice," which features the Gangre Brass Band from Benin. Those unacquainted with Lo"Jo"s polyglot sound, which includes everything from violin and piano to Turkish clarinet, gorgeous Arabic harmonies and West African stringed instruments such as the imzad and kamel n"goni, will find this as good an introduction as any, especially since the disc includes an enhanced video clip of the song "Tanguito," where a solitary rope acrobat twirls high above the stage in rhythm to Lo"Jo"s otherworldly harmonies. --Ezra Gale
