Monville Charles Waters (Monty) was born in Modesto California on April 14th 1938 and died in December, 2008 in Berlin. Saxophonist Waters came from a musical family, being taught piano by his mother and aunt, and after a brief stint playing R & B (now on alto saxophone) touring Southern States with luminaries like B.B. King and James Brown he moved to San Francisco playing with John Hendricks, King Pleasure and Miles Davis amongst others. He switched Coasts in 1968 where he again worked in New York with Henricks and was an active figure on the jazz scene for several years playing with everybody from Ornette Coleman to Louis Armstrong. He was a prolific composer having penned over 500 compositions as well as being an accomplished arranger for many of the bands with which he was associated. He had a deep association with Joe Lee Wilson and is also featured on Joe Lee"s Why Not recording Shout for Trane. With Ronnie Boykins, Yoshiaki Masuo and George Avaloz.
