The Prids return with "Something Difficult", an EP that reinforces the fact that this group can do more with a whisper than most do with a scream. The opener and title track is all cautionary vocal and liquid bass line droning against a martial snare drum, the guitar present only to move the listener further downward. "One Thousand Five" picks up the pace and pushes the record forward with the band"s trademark sound. Driving guitars and the tight drumming of Joey Mass churn under Frederickson and Keith"s signature boy/girl vocals. Too quickly it"s all over. The simple yet moving "Molest the Outer Heart" and the closer, a cover of "Motor Away" by cult heroes Guided By Voices (featuring a gorgeous vocal by Keith floating over Eric Hold"s industrial keyboard) prove the too oft clichéd point that pain can indeed be sadly beautiful.
