The second release on Wondercap Records is the reissue of Sam Phipps" (Sluggo of Oingo Boingo fame) 1981 solo effort "Animal Sounds", originally released on the micro indie label Dream Records. Maestro Tenor Sax player Phipps is joined by legendary pianist John Larkin (later to become Scatman John) on this 6 track album, whom Sam calls a cross between McCoy Tyner and Cecil Taylor. As a bonus, we have added 4 tracks from a live radio performance by Phipps and Larkin to fill out the disc. Beautiful and melodic/modal at times, then way out at others, this album is an unearthed classic.
