In the Fall of 1999, Keith Irish went into the garage and transformed his old skateboard from a childhood toy he lacked the skills to enjoy, optimizing its performance into a guitar that required little effort, to produce a wretched noise that most thrash guitarists strive for. Cary Pealer joined on drums and Punk As A Doornail was born under the sunny skies of Fullerton, California. The lyrics of the songs to come were reminiscent of The Dead Milkmen and possibly The Butthole Surfers blurted over a sound indicative of no wave, such as Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, The Contortions and DNA. The homemade musical instruments are an outlet for Keith"s obsession with Harry Partch, Einsturzende Neubauten, Flipper and The Screamers.
