Within a few days of this show, guitarist BERNIE TORME had walked out on the band. Not only did it come as a shock to fans, but also no one was aware how historic this gig recorded in AACHEN, Germany during the summer of 1981 was. Whatever feelings Torme may have had at the time, one listen to this recording and you will clearly hear that whatever friction there may have been, the band did not allow this to manifest itself on stage. "On The Rocks" turned out to be a prophetically titled song, given the events that were to follow. JOHN McCOY performed with a double neck guitar to record a TOTP show as part of a four-piece band. Why Torme walked was never fully explained, but looking back now it"s clearly evident that the band was indeed "ON THE ROCKS", and although they carried on for one more year with replacement guitarist JANICK GERS, to many fans the MK11 line up of IAN GILLAN, COLIN TOWNS, JOHN McCOY, MICK UNDERWOOD and TORME was the pinnacle of what Gillan the band stood for.
