This is sufficient to understand what role dances played in Schubert"s extremely fertile creativity. Brigitte Massin, one of his biographers, calculated that Schubert wrote 110 Deutsche, 92 Waltzes, 72 Ecossaises, 29 Minuets, two Galops and one Cotillon for a total of 410 various kinds of dances.
