This book presents edited papers from the October 2001 Conference on Responsible Fisheries in the Marine Ecosystem, held in Reykjavik, Iceland. The objectives of the conference were to review current knowledge on marine ecosystems of relevance to fisheries management; to identify means by which ecosystem considerations can be included in fisheries management; and to foresee future challenges and outline relevant strategies to cope with them. Papers are in sections on introductory reviews, dynamics of marine ecosystems, the role of man, and incorporating ecosystem concerns in fisheries management.
