The new edition includes about 4,000 additional entries (especially in genetics, immunology, oncology, gynecology and radiology), bringing the total up to about 30,000; 500 new line drawings and full-page plates, for a total of 3,000-plus illustrations with color highlights showing bones, muscles, nerves and veins, some accompanied by tables; hundreds more abbreviations; and an expanded pronunciation guide. The dictionary is the fruit of efforts by Ida Dox (a medical consultant), B. John Melloni and Gilbert M. Eisner (both of Georgetown U.), and June L.
