Colleges and universities are becoming increasingly active in acquiring and developing property, adding land, buildings, and commercial ventures to their asset bases, but the phenomenon has been little studied and seems to be little understood by either scholars or practitioners. Researchers in urban planning, architecture, economics, and other relevant fields have been collaborating with the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy to explore it, and the 17 essays here are part of the outcome of their effort.
