This work offers a reader-friendly overview, in outline format, of the five core competencies outlined by the Association of Schools of Public Health. One chapter is devoted to each of the disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, behavioral and social sciences, environmental health, and health policy and management sciences. Numerous vignettes illustrate the application of concepts. The text can be used in courses that offer a basic introduction to the field of public health, and for courses that prepare MPH students for the new Certification in Public Health exam.
