T"ao Ch"ien, also called T"ao Yuan-ming (365-427 C.E.), is one of the most revered poets in Chinese literature, and member of a tradition of paramount importance to contemporary American poetry. He was the first pet to speak in the wholly natural voice of mundane, immediately verifiable experience, creating the personal lyricism that distinguished Chinese poetry for a millennium.
