Comprehensive Handbook of Pediatric Audiology (Hardcover)
Price 140.75 - 167.95 USD
As audiologists began to recognize the importance of early diagnosis in children and early remediation when possible so as to minimize the impact on child and family, the subspecialty of pediatric audiology emerged in the early 1960s; it has grown by leaps and bounds since then with the advent of new technology as well as new understanding of hearing loss in young children. In this focused text, 41 contributed chapters are arranged in sections on typical auditory development, etiology and medical considerations, auditory disorders, early identification of hearing loss, approaches to assessment, hearing technologies, management considerations, and family and educational considerations--in short, the full range of information that audiologists working with children need to know. The book is dedicated to Judith S. Gavel, an esteemed pediatric audiologist who initiated the text in 2006, and guided its early development until she passed away in 2008; proceeds from book sales will be dedicated to a student scholarship fund at Vanderbilt U. in her memory. Editors Seewald (emeritus, U. of Western Ontario, Canada) and Tharpe (hearing & speech sciences, Vanderbilt U. School of Medicine) have brought together contributions from speech and hearing disorder professionals based mostly in the US and Canada (a handful are from elsewhere, including Australia, India, South Africa, the UK).
