Caracas, during the Fifties, is a prosperous Latin American metropolis. The modernising impulse expresses itself in the construction of a new city, with spaces, shapes and styles that break with the past and represent the economic prosperity of the moment. In this context, a couple from Caracas, Armando Planchart and his wife Ana Luisa (Anala), both passionate about modern art and architecture, conceive the idea of building a new house. To accomplish this project, they decide to contact Italian architect Gio Ponti, one of the most influential European artists at the time. At first the architect gently declines the proposal, but later on he decides to accept the challenge. He travels to Venezuela and falls in love with the country forever. Since then an intense friendship is established with the Plancharts: the exemplary relationship between an architect and the clients. The house, named Quinta El Cerrito or Villa Planchart, is considered as one of Pontiâ TMs masterpieces by the international critique. In this documentary we present the history of this houseâ TMs construction, which is at the same time the history of a great friendship. El Cerrito was awarded with the National Prize for Documentary Cinema (DOCUMENTA) in the categories of Best Script and Best Opera Prima (Caracas, Venezuela) and received an Honorary mention at the XXV Bogota Film Festival in the category of Documentary on Art. Itâ TMs been presented in several festivals and exhibitions: Havana Film Festival (Cuba), International Festival of Films on Art / Festival International du Film sur L´Art (Montreal, Canada), Cinema and Heritage International Festival (Murcia, Spain), Vedere l"architettura (Naples, Italy), Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Art on Screen (New York, USA) and Temps d"images Film Award for Films on Art (Lisbon, Portugal). El Cerrito was also acquired by A&E Ole Networks and broadcasted for the Latin American region by The History Channel.
