Don"t expect a second line of denizens from Odessa to come marching down the street behind this band. Rather, you should steel yourself for energetic, aggressive, modern music with deep respect for the roots of klezmer but a determined forward approach and a bit of a sly, sideways grin. It"s all fair game for this band that ruthlessly mixes Jewish theater with a Louis Armstrong downbeat or a Latin backbeat. Expert musicianship and tight chops are tempered by a sense of humor that produces songs to match zany titles like "Struttin" with Some Doner Kebab," "Moroccan Roller," and "Not Too Eggy." Whether it"s Arab and Jewish jazz or rock and locks, this band produces a big sound. Accordion, clarinets, and saxophones dance with a heavy rhythm section, particularly induced by drummer Kevin O"Day and bass partner Arthur Kastler.
