Waylon is seriously honing his sound on 1967 s Love of the Common People, drawing upon material as far-ranging as the Beatles, Mel Tillis and Tompall Glaser, while 1968 s Hangin On stretches the Jennings-Atkins collaboration to a brilliant breaking point (Waylon even manages to sneak his own band the Waylors in for a few tracks).
