1961 Helsinki Concert (Bonus Tracks)
Price 13.49 - 16.84 USD
John Coltrane and Eric Dolphy played and recorded together on many occasions. However, given the quality of their music and the high level of creativity involved in every single one of their performances, all new additions are always welcome. In this case, we present a previously unissued concert recorded from a radio broadcast in Helsinki in 1961, during the European tour in which Dolphy joined Trane"s legendary quartet. The Helsinki performance showcases both Coltrane and Dolphy"s musical explorations in search of new ways to express themselves. As a bonus to this newly heard performance, we offer another concert set. This is a true rarity, for the April 1, 1960 Dsseldorf concert marked Coltrane"s last gig with Miles in 1960. Davis was unable to attend the date for unknown reasons, and so Trane performed alone backed by Miles" outstanding rhythm section (Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums). It is interesting to hear Coltrane in a quartet format shortly before he formed his own famous unit with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison and Elvin Jones. Seven tracks. Gambit.
